Some shipping companies have either taken the decision to withdraw port congestion surcharge or have deferred its collection for 15 days, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) was intimated on Wednesday, media sources have reported.
According to a press note, the FPCCI welcomed the decision of withdrawal of surcharge, but also warned shipping companies that had yet not reached the decision to withdraw the surcharge. The FPCCI went on to say that all forms of surcharge at the port of destination were illegal. The FPCCI cautioned that it was monitoring the situation and urged the shipping companies to stop collecting the extra charges at the destination port. The FPCCI informed that if the remaining shipping companies did not withdraw the surcharge, it would have to ask the affected importers to stop accepting delivery of their containers from Thursday (today).
