ISLAMABAD: Energy Minister Omar Ayub Khan on Monday held a meeting with the independent power producers (IPPs) to discuss lowering of tariff on electricity produced by them.
According to media reports, the federal minister was briefed during the meeting that overall 124 power plants are producing 1,236 megawatts of electricity from wind energy.
It was further briefed that solar power plants are producing 436MW electricity, while power plants installed at sugar mills are further adding to the energy needs of the country.
The two sides discussed the revenue generated from the plants and lowering of their power tariff.
On April 17, a major progress was made in dialogues between the Power Division and IPPs for controlling the electricity tariff.
The federal government and IPPs had decided to constitute a technical team for the reduction in electricity tariff. The committee comprised representatives of Power Division and IPPs.
Moreover, the private sector showed agreement to review capacity payment system during dialogues held under the Power Policy of 1994 and 2002.
It was also decided that the committee would be activated immediately to present a report within a few week.
Energy Minister Omar Ayub represented the federal government in the dialogues with the power providers.
He acknowledged that power tariff was continuously increased during the last few years.
