SIDC pledges to resolve issues of sports industry

Sports Industries Development Centre (SIDC) Project Director Muhammad Sarwar Hanif said on Wednesday that the SIDC was busy in providing technical guidelines and other needs of local business community engaged in sports goods industry.

He said that the SIDC, a project of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA), was set up at the cost of Rs 436 million with the active support of the federal government.

Highlighting the objectives of SIDC, he said that all machines for manufacturing of bladders, basket ball, volley ball and thermo laminated ball were installed and were busy in providing services to the local industry successfully. He said that Sialkot city was known internationally as producer of standard quality products in sports, surgical instruments, leather garments, gloves, accessories, sportswear, musical instruments and about 4,00,000 people were engaged in export activities.

The sports goods sector was the main export sector of the city by providing 70 per cent of total world demand of hand stitched inflatable ball, he added.
