Karachi: In good news for consumers in Azad-Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has plans to bring blazing fast 3G and 4G services to the region by February next year, said an official.
To make this a reality, PTA is already seeking expressions of interest (EoI) to employ a consultant for working out the base price and modalities of the auction process for 3G/4G services in the region, reported a local newspaper.
For AJK and GB regions, not only would this bring much needed socio-economic uplift but also help in increasing tourism and create much needed job opportunities for the local populace. Since these areas are difficult to access via transportation, 3G/4G services will provide better connectivity options to all.
GB and AJK have already given the go-ahead to polices for bringing 3G/4G services in the region and sought PTA’s help to ensure arrangement for the next generation mobile services (NGMS) auction.
As per rules, PTA is supposed to employ a consultant who will conduct meetings with cellular operators and with relevant AJK/GB departments to reach to a base price after surveying the markets in the region.
