ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) based weekly inflation for the week ended on May 10 for the combined income groups witnessed an increase of 0.31 per cent as compared to the previous week.
The SPI for the week under review in the above-mentioned group was recorded at 224.47 points against 223.77 points last week, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 1.81 per cent.
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007, 2008=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups.
Meanwhile, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs8,000 also increased by 0.17 per cent as it went up from 210.39 points in the previous week to 210.74 points in the week under review.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs8,001 to Rs12,000, Rs12,001 to Rs18,000, and Rs18,001 to Rs35,000, and above Rs35,000 increased by 0.24 per cent, 0.28 per cent, 0.33 per cent and 0.36 per cent respectively.
During the week under review, average prices of 9 items registered decrease, while 15 items increased with the remaining 29 items prices unchanged.
The items, which registered a decrease in their prices during the week included:

- Onions
- Garlic
- Wheat
- Wheat flour
- Eggs (farm)
- Pulse moong
- Pulse gram
- Sugar
The items, which registered an increase in prices included:
- Chicken (farm)
- Bananas
- Potatoes
- LPG cylinder
- Vegetable ghee (loose)
- Tea
- Beef
- Rice irri-6
- Vegetable ghee (tin)
- Cooking Oil (tin)
- Pulse (mash)
- Red chilly powder
- Gur
- Rice (basmati)
- Mutton
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included bread plain, milk fresh, curd, powdered milk, mustard oil, pulse masoor, salt powder, cooked beef, cooked pulses, tea prepared, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn printed, georgette, gents shoes, ladies shoes, electricity charges, gas charges, kerosene oil, firewood whole, electric bulb, washing soap, petrol, Hi Speed Diesel, telephone local call charges, and bathing soap.
