President urges promotion of Pakistan as geo-economic hub of region

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has said that promoting Pakistan as the geo-economic hub should be the country’s vision instead of merely highlighting its strategic location.

In an interview with a private news channel, the president said having land routes and trade linkages across the region, including Iran, Afghanistan, China, and Central Asian states, provide Pakistan venue to trade goods from China through Gwadar Port.

He said Pakistan had already shifted the Afghan transit trade to Gwadar and the regional trade can be enhanced significantly once peace is restored in Afghanistan.

Alvi said India tried to establish its hegemony in the region by jumping into different blocs and fora.

The president to another query said the development of Gwadar Port would serve as the main connectivity linkage with the Central Asian countries.
