Zardari, Bilawal not invited to Biden inauguration: PPP

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Thursday clarified that neither party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari nor former president Asif Ali Zardari had been invited to United States President-elect Joe Biden’s oath-taking ceremony in spite of recent media reports.

The ceremony is set to take place on January 20, 2021.

Senator Farhatullah Babar told BBC Urdu that no such invitation has been received and put a stop to the rumours which had been circulating on social media and news outlets about the father-son duo heading to the United States.

The factually incorrect news reports had said that Bilawal would reach the US on January 19 and stay till January 22.

Bilawal is not the only politician who had been caught in the media whirlwind of false inauguration invitations. Former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh and Mexican President Andres Obrador had also been rumoured to attend the event, but both have denied the claims.

Members of the Biden inauguration committee have indicated that they are not inviting foreign leaders to the January 20 ceremony due to the Covid-19 pandemic and are also urging Americans to watch it from their homes.
