Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has partnered with NADRA Technologies Limited to introduce mandatory biometric verification for all new electricity connections and reconnections, a step officials say will modernize the power sector and protect consumers.
The agreement was signed at IESCO’s Head Office by Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood, CEO IESCO, and Umar Khan Azad, CEO NADRA Technologies. Under the new system, applicants will be required to undergo biometric verification to authenticate their identity, ensuring secure and fraud-free access to electricity services.
According to IESCO, the initiative is expected to streamline service delivery, eliminate bogus connections, and improve accountability across the distribution network. The move is part of broader efforts to digitize utility services in line with the Government of Pakistan and Ministry of Energy’s consumer-friendly digitalization policies.
Speaking at the ceremony, Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood underscored the need to upgrade infrastructure to meet evolving consumer needs. “This partnership with NADRA Technologies will not only improve operational efficiency but also reinforce public trust in our services,” he said.
Echoing his remarks, Umar Khan Azad reaffirmed NADRA’s role in enabling secure digital governance. “Secure identity verification is the cornerstone of transparent governance, and we’re proud to support IESCO in this transformative journey,” he noted.
