Punjab govt announces Rs100 billion rehabilitation package for flood victims

Government vows transparent relief and promises no camp closure until all victims are compensated

The Punjab Government has announced a Rs100 billion rehabilitation package for flood victims across the province, with a commitment to full transparency in aid distribution and ensuring that no camp closes until every affected family is compensated.

During the inauguration of the Flood Victims Rehabilitation Programme on Monday, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif outlined that free transport services would be provided to help flood-affected individuals access relief funds. She assured that the full amount would be spent solely on victims’ rehabilitation.

The Chief Minister stressed that the provincial treasury was a public trust and would be used exclusively for the welfare of the people. She noted that the provincial government had carried out a self-funded, transparent rescue operation without international assistance.

Maryam Nawaz said she and her cabinet members had worked alongside flood victims for weeks, coordinating efforts to relocate 2.5 million people to safe areas and providing medical care to more than 1.2 million through 100 field hospitals. She also mentioned that livestock vaccinations had been carried out in the affected regions.

A strict monitoring system has been implemented to ensure that aid reaches only verified victims. “No flood camp will be closed until every affected family is compensated,” she promised, reaffirming the government’s commitment to rebuilding the lives of flood victims.

She concluded by emphasizing the need for equal development across Punjab, ensuring all areas receive adequate resources. “As long as I am chief minister, no one will dare look at the people of Punjab with ill intent,” she stated.
