Worrying statistics show continuous decline in exports to 18 countries

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has witnessed a continuous decline in export to eighteen countries in the last five years, it has been learnt.

Official documents reveal that Pakistan’s exports have been continuously decreasing since the last five years to 18 countries including America, Australia, China, and UAE, and Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan;s exports to Australia were recorded at $255.64 million in 2013-14, $163.7 million in 2014-15, $224.66 million in 2015-16, $186.7 million in 2016-17 and $212.56 million in 2017-18.

Similarly, Pakistan’s exports to Malaysia were recorded at $213.96 million in 2013-14, $206.94 million in 2014-15, $162.3 million in 2015-16, $139.7 million in 2016-17 and $145.18 million in 2017-18.

Pakistan’s exports to China were recorded at $2416.98 million in 2013-14, $2126.85 million in 2014-15, $1669.59 million in 2015-16, $1463.3 million in 2016-17 and $1741.03 million in 2017-18.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s exports to Hong Kong were recorded at $361.68 million in 2013-14, $285.75 million in 2014-15, $165.41 million in 2015-16, $120.44 million in 2016-17 and $113.95 million in 2017-18.

Pakistan’s exports to South Korea have also decreased in the last five years as statistics show that Pakistan’s exports were recorded at $416.371 million in 2013-14, $341.471 million in 2014-15, $256.89 million in 2015-16, $338.11 million in 2016-17 and $324.05 million in 2017-18.

Pakistan’s  exports to Canada were recorded at $235.71 million in 2013-14, $229.57 million in 2014-15, $221.05 million in 2015-16, $230.23 million in 2016-17 and $260.62 million in 2017-18, documents stated.

Pakistan’s exports to USA were $3729.13 million in 2013-14, $3730.45 million in 2014-15, $3539.03 million in 2015-16, $3452.33 million in 2016-17 and $3694.52 million in 2017-18.

Pakistan’s exports to Brazil have not crossed triple-digit, as in 2013-14, exports were $92.4 million, $70.72 million in 2014-15, $40.15 million in 2015-16, $43.54 million in 2016-17 and $55.76 million in 2017-18.

Pakistan’s exports to Kenya were recorded at $30.42 million in 2013-14, $311.76 million in 2014-15, $257.56 million in 2015-16, $316.12 million in 2016-17 and $287.19 million in 2017-18.

Furthermore, Pakistan’s exports to Nigeria were recorded $57.43 million in 2013-14, $66.28 million in 2014-15, $34.61 million in 2015-16, $46.63 million in 2016-17 and $53.77 million in 2017-18.

In addition to this, documents state that Pakistan’s exports to South Africa were recorded at $294.55 million in 2013-14, $263.55 million in 2014-15, $186.7 million in 2015-16, $168.41 million in 2016-17 and $176.49 million in 2017-18.

Besides this, Pakistan’s exports to brotherly country Saudi Arabia were recorded at $505.4 million in 2013-14, $461.04 million in 2014-15, $422.43 million in 2015-16, $336.98 million in 2016-17 and $305.6 million in 2017-18.

Pakistan’s exports to UAE, Bahrain, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey and Russia also witnessed a decline in the last five years.

Pakistan’s exports to UAE were recorded at $1724 million in 2013-14 and with the passing years, have plunged down to $800 million in 2017-18.

Pakistan’s exports to Bahrain were $101.65 million in 2013-14 and amounted to $51.3 million in 2017-18.

Similarly, in 2013-14, Pakistan’s exports to Iran were recorded at $52.67 million in 2013-14, which is witnessed $22.86 million in 2017-18.

Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan were $1760.17 million in 2013-14, $1875.46 million in 2014-15, $1472.9 million in 2015-16, $1299.93 million in 2016-17 and $1301.54 million in 2017-18.

Pakistan’s exports to Turkey amounted to $389.36 million in 2013-14, $306.89 million in 2014-15, $227.46 million in 2015-16, $277.73 million in 2016-17 and $343.06 million in 2017-18.

Lastly, documents show that Pakistani exports to Russia were $188.4 million in 2013-14 and have reduced to $146.92 million in 2017-18.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan’s overall exports were around $25 billion per annum in 2013-14, but due to ill-conceived policies of the last Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) government, they have decreased to around $24 billion in 2017-18.
