Timely collection of entertainment duty is crucially important: Chawla

KARACHI: Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla said on Tuesday that timely collection of taxes is important. Entertainment duty, especially from mini playlands, is also equally important because it has come to his notice that a certain number of mini playlands are functioning in the city.

This he said while presiding over a meeting in his office. Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Secretary Abdul Haleem Shaikh, Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and other officers also attended the meeting.

Chawla said that such mini playlands were being operated in big shopping malls, Landhi, Korangi and other parts of the metropolitan city, but the situation of the collection of the entertainment duty was not up to the mark.

He also asked the ET&NT DG to monitor the individual performance of the AETOs and ETIs, posted for the purpose and assess the list of the playlands as well.

Chawla directed the officers concerned to pay regular surprise visits to all entertainment/amusement places to avert any aversion of the duty.  He warned the officers to remain efficient and active in performing their duties. “If anyone was found guilty, he/she would definitely be suspended,” he said.

On this occasion, Siddiqui briefed the provincial minister regarding the performance of the officers.
