PM for eliminating unnecessary withholding taxes

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the officials concerned to pay special attention on the elimination of unnecessary withholding taxes.

Chairing a meeting regarding reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Thursday, the PM stated, “Unnecessary withholding taxes should be scrapped from the system to encourage the businesses and consumers. The FBR must address complications in the taxation system, specifically those related to the filing of tax returns.”

The PM called for the use of technology in the FBR to ensure transparency in the tax system, adding that automation of government institutions was among the government’s top priorities.

Emphasizing on the importance of simplifying the tax system for small & medium enterprises, the prime minister asked the revenue board to utilise all-out resources to facilitate the small traders.

Representing FBR, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Finance Dr Waqar Masood briefed the PM on a number of tax reforms introduced by the revenue board in order to improve the tax system.
