DPP integrates with International Plant Protection Convention’s e-Phyto Hub

Move likely to improve trade efficiency and commitment to global standards

ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan, under the Pakistan Single Window (PSW) initiative, achieved a milestone by integrating the National Plant Protection Organization with the International Plant Protection Convention’s e-Phyto Hub.

As per details Caretaker Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Dr. Kausar Abdullah Malik, led this initiative during a recent visit to the Karachi Port Trust, where he chaired a pivotal meeting at the Department of Plant Protection (DPP).

Dr. Malik underscored the Department of Plant Protection’s pivotal role in regulating agricultural imports and exports, safeguarding the country’s plantation from potential threats posed by harmful insects or pests.

Expressing satisfaction with the ongoing digitization process, the minister highlighted the Department’s quarantine facility’s impressive 100% efficiency, a testament to the success of modernization efforts.

In a significant announcement, Dr. Malik disclosed that the DPP has entered into an agreement with the government for the implementation of single-window operations. This strategic move is poised to streamline the processes, removing barriers and fostering a more conducive environment for trade within the country.

Dr. Malik also stated that, owing to the DPP’s effective role, Pakistan’s clearance certificates are now recognized and accepted in over 130 countries. This not only boosts global confidence but also positions Pakistan as a reliable partner in international trade.

Addressing the financial aspect, Dr. Malik assured that he would approach the finance ministry to allocate a portion of the revenue generated by the Department of Plant Protection for capacity building. This, he believes, will empower the department to meet the growing demands of an evolving trade landscape.

During the meeting, the minister received a briefing on infrastructure and administrative challenges. In response, he pledged unwavering support, promising every possible assistance to ensure the sustained success of the Department of Plant Protection.

This integration with the International Plant Protection Convention’s e-Phyto Hub marks a pivotal moment for Pakistan, signaling not only increased trade efficiency but also a commitment to global standards and a resolute stance against illegal practices, particularly in the realm of phytosanitary certificate exchange.
