Pakistan to establish 10,000 EV charging stations by 2030, says minister

31 companies show interest in investing in the EV market; two firms already approved for manufacturing: Rana Tanveer Hussain

Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain revealed the government’s plan to transform Pakistan’s transportation landscape by setting up 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2030.

Addressing an “Exhibition of Electric Bike Models” organized by the Engineering Development Board (EDB), he emphasized the government’s commitment to reducing fuel dependency, cutting carbon emissions, and promoting cleaner, sustainable transportation.

With growing private sector interest and government-backed incentives, this shift towards electric mobility is expected to benefit both the economy and the environment significantly.

The minister stated that around 31 companies have expressed interest in investing in electric vehicles in Pakistan, with two companies already granted permission to manufacture EVs.

He noted, “Pakistan is now in a position to export three-wheelers.” The minister outlined several key initiatives to promote electric vehicles nationwide, adding that manufacturing activities by private companies would soon commence, strengthening the industry.

The government is set to launch a second electric vehicle policy by November 30 to further promote eco-friendly transportation. Additionally, the Punjab government is working on developing two- and three-wheeler electric vehicles.

The minister also announced that 100 students would receive electric bikes based on merit, through a transparent bidding process. The government has allocated Rs. 4 billion for electric motorcycles.

He highlighted the vital role of the private sector in Pakistan’s economic development, noting that the country’s economy is moving towards improvement.

This shift towards sustainable transportation is expected to positively impact Pakistan’s environment and economy, with government support and private sector investment paving the way for a greener future.
