Russia warns U.S. tariffs could harm global economy

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson says these policies put pressure not only on targeted countries but also on the broader global system

Russia warned on Thursday that the United States’ rising trade tariffs could hurt the global economy.

The comment came from Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova during a press briefing in Moscow.

She said Washington’s trade actions could lead to a fragmentation of the world economy and added that the U.S. had become a source of instability in global trade.

The statement follows recent moves by President Donald Trump to increase tariffs on goods coming into the U.S. from multiple countries. Zakharova said these policies put pressure not only on targeted countries but also on the broader global system.

Last week, Trump also threatened new sanctions against Russia and other countries that buy its exports. He said the measures would go into effect unless Moscow agrees to a peace deal over Ukraine by early September.
