High-speed diesel price slashed by Rs12.84 to Rs272.99, petrol rate unchanged at Rs264.61

Kerosene and LDO prices also reduced; new rates effective from August 16, 2025

The federal government announced on Friday night a reduction of Rs12.84 per litre in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) for the upcoming fortnight, while the price of petrol will remain unchanged.

The new price for HSD will be Rs272.99 per litre, while petrol will continue to cost Rs264.61. The revised prices will come into effect on August 16, 2025.

Additionally, the prices of superior kerosene oil and light diesel oil have been lowered by Rs7.19 and Rs8.20 per litre, respectively.

The government made this decision based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and relevant ministries.

Earlier predictions had suggested a slight decrease in HSD prices and an increase in petrol prices due to global market trends and exchange rate fluctuations. International petrol prices had risen slightly, while diesel rates had fallen, contributing to the revised prices.

Since HSD is widely used in heavy transport vehicles, trains, and agricultural machinery, its price directly impacts the cost of transporting goods, particularly in the agricultural sector. As such, the reduction in HSD prices is expected to ease inflationary pressures on everyday goods and services, including vegetables and food items.

In the previous fortnightly review, petrol prices had been lowered by Rs7.54 per litre to Rs264.61, while high-speed diesel rates had increased by Rs1.48 per litre to Rs285.83.
