Punjab government expands consumer protection councils to 35 districts

The Punjab government has expanded its consumer protection network by establishing councils in 17 additional districts, bringing coverage to 35 districts across the province. 

According to reports, the move was approved by the Punjab governor under the Punjab Consumer Protection Act, 2005, a notification issued on Friday by Price Control Department Secretary Dr Kiran Khurshid stated.

The newly formed councils empower consumers to lodge complaints regarding the quality of goods and service delivery. They have been set up in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Attock, Jhelum, Narowal, Chiniot, Kasur, Khushab, Toba Tek Singh, Okara, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Hafizabad, Jhang, Pakpattan, Rajanpur, Sheikhupura, and Vehari.

Each council will operate from the office of the respective district deputy commissioner to ensure timely and efficient redressal of public grievances.
