Govt releases Rs1.043bn for CPEC projects

ISLAMABAD: The government has released Rs1.043 billion for the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects under its Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2018-19.

According to the data released by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform, the government has so far released Rs500 million out of its allocation of Rs22.8 billion in the current fiscal year for the construction of Karakorum Highway (Phase-II) Havelian-Thakot (118.057km).

Similarly, an amount of Rs50 million out of total allocation of Rs1.5 billion has been released for the land acquisition and resettlement for Islamabad-Raikot Section (Phase-I), Havelian-Thakot (120.12km).

The project for construction and blacktopping of the access road from Makran Coastal Highway to New Gwadar International Airport has received Rs4.43 million out of the total Rs22.15 million, whereas for necessary facilities of fresh water treatment, water supply and distribution of Gwadar, an amount of Rs200 million has been released.

Furthermore, the government released Rs30 million, out of the total allocation of Rs150 million, for 5MGD RO seawater desalination plant at Gwadar.

As many as Rs41.8 million out of the allotted Rs209 million have been released for the construction of offices for intelligence bureau along with the CPEC route, whereas Rs97 million out of the total amount of Rs200 million allocated for the current fiscal year have been released for expansion and up-gradation of NGMS (3G/4G) services and seamless coverage along Karakorum Highway in Gilgit Baltistan.

For the construction of Eastbay Expressway, Gwadar, and for the establishment of CPEC support unit for projects and activities in Gwadar Port Authority, an amount of Rs20 million and Rs4 million has been released respectively.

Moreover, the government has released an amount of Rs38.8 million to conduct the feasibility study for the construction of the breakwater, whereas Rs20 million for Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute at Gwadar.

CPEC Support Project (CPECSP) at the Ministry of Railways gets Rs10 million out of total allocation of Rs50 million, whereas Rs7.8 million out of Rs39.03 million have been released for a comprehensive feasibility study on the up-gradation and rehabilitation of Mainline (ML-I) and new dry port at Havelian (Buldher) District Haripur.

Likewise, Rs2.44 million out of total allocation of Rs6.1 million have been released for the PC-II design consultancy services for Customs’ Model Collectorate Gilgit.

The government has also released Rs11.4 million for the purchase of land to establish directorate of transit trade at Gilgit and Rs6 million for construction of zonal office (Inland Revenue) at Mansehra.
