‘Govt committed to eradicating power theft, load shedding’

HARIPUR: Water and Power Minister Omer Ayub Khan said on Tuesday that the government was determined to eradicating electricity theft and load shedding in line with the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Addressing a public gathering after the inauguration of Sui gas provision projects at Shadi, Hattar and Kamalpur, the minister said that the incumbent government was committed to serving the masses, adding that the federal government had overcome many challenges in a short span of time.

“Economic indicators are improving and foreign investors have shown their confidence by investing billions of dollars in Pakistan,” he mentioned. “We will resolve the electricity issues for the next 50 years in district Haripur and will also provide Sui gas to the Khanpur, Dartian and Doorpar areas.”

He said that the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) was working on 10 new feeders in Haripur. By the end of next week, Khanpur grid station worth Rs500 million would also be inaugurated, he announced.

“We have also received approval for the 220-volt Hattar grid station, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs8.5 billion,” the minister stated.

The government representatives of Haripur in the past did nothing to upgrade the only hospital of the district, he lamented, adding that the incumbent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved to upgrade the district headquarters hospital Haripur into grade A hospital and a medical college.
