LAHORE: Telenor Micro Finance Bank Limited (formerly, Tameer Micro Finance Bank Limited) on Saturday offered Information Technology services to Pakistan Railways (PR) including its employees and passengers.
This offer put forward by Chief Executive Officer Telenor Micro Finance Bank Limited Ali Riaz Chaudhary during a meeting with Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique here at Pakistan Railways Headquarters Office Lahore.
Saad Rafique railways passengers have been increased up to 50 million and their number is increasing with each passing day. “Railways is undergoing a drastic change and it’s necessary to keep up with the modern technologies of the world,” he said, adding that PR will provide level play field to all the companies coming up with IT solutions to facilitate passengers, wifi services on railway stations and trains, digitisation of system and more.
Ali Riaz Chaudhary offered services of 75,000 outlets of easypaisa as ticketing facilitation centres for those passengers lacking access to banks or railways reservation offices. He said that this would further make e-ticketing hassle free thereby lessening burden on reservation offices.
Later on, a committee was constituted to present practical solutions regarding IT related matters within a month.
According to PR spokesman, the offers presented by Telenor were appreciated by the minister. He said that currently Pakistan Railways E-Ticketing system is working in collaboration with UBL omni which has 45,000 outlets across the country. “It was due to success of present e-ticketing system that other financial agents in market have also shown interest in becoming business partner of PR,” he added.
