IPO Pak soon to launch one window operations

Chairman Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO) Pakistan Shahid Rashid has stated in a press conference that one-window operations will commence from March 31 in Karachi to allow easy access to businesses for any queries related to intellectual property rights (IPR). All matters relating to IPR are likely to be dealt with at a single venue hence will save time and facilitate the public.

The chairman further revealed that the first ever National IPR Strategy is in the final stage of consultation with stakeholders and will soon be presented to the cabinet for approval. He also briefed about the finalisation of the Geographical Protection Bill. The bill is likely to be in place during the tenure of the current parliament.

It is expected that a memorandum of understanding is due to be signed between IPO-Pakistan and State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO)-China to enhance cooperation for the promotion of IPR in the said countries.

The chairman also announced the celebration of the World Intellectual Property Day in Pakistan on April 26.This year’s theme is “Innovations – improving lives”.
