Intel shuts down offices in Pakistan

Intel Corporation has shut down operations in Pakistan recently as part of its global business strategy to concentrate on profitable markets and allow cost cutting, media sources have reported. The head office in Karachi is reported to have closed down with majority of the staff being laid off. However, selective employees have been relocated to regional offices in Malaysia and Singapore.

Moreover, as part of the strategy, the company will shift its focus on business involving Cloud Computing rather than on providing hardware solutions, one of the business partners is reported to have stated. The same strategy has been reportedly adopted in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as well.

According to the media sources, industry people have informed that Intel will carry out its operations in Pakistan through different business partners and vendors; with the operations being managed from the regional office in Malaysia. The American Multinational Corporation has a significant market share in the business of desktop computers and laptops, a vendor informed.

Intel’s is still involved in Pakistan for various projects related to Intel International Science and Emerging Fair which leaves significant room for Pakistani youth to exhibit their talent in the field of science and technology.
