35th international carpets expo starts

LAHORE: The 35th international carpets exhibition began at a local hotel arranged by the Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association in collaboration with Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.

Around 100 delegates from 38 countries are likely to participate in the three-day event while about 70 leading manufacturers of carpets will display their stalls at the expo. It will conclude on Saturday.

The foreign and local delegates in a large number visited the expo on the first day and showed a keen interest in Pakistani products showing cultural and heritage scenes.

Addressing an inauguration ceremony, Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association Senior Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmed said that Pakistani carpet manufacturers were working hard to enhance its demand in international market.

He said that more than 60 stalls of local and foreign companies had been displayed at the expo and expected to attract foreign customers.

He hoped the exhibition would help Pakistan to enhance its exports.

Riaz Ahmed admired the role played by the Trade and Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) which has been a helping hand for financing the exhibitions in and out of the country.

He said that Pakistani carpets were among the top carpets in the world.

“The TDAP has released a significant portion of funding to international carpet exhibition as the TDAP encourages boosting carpet exports”, he added.

He suggested that with the support of the government its production could be increased and the industry could once again achieve its lost status in the international market.
