Traders call for new rent control law to promote business activities

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sheikh Amir Waheed said that due to the absence of rent control Act in Islamabad, traders were feeling insecure about their future and urged that government should promulgate a new rent law in the federal capital that would help in promoting business activities.

He expressed these views while addressing the traders delegation led by Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajiran and Traders Action Committee (TAC) President Ajmal Baloch who visited the ICCI to felicitate the new office bearers of ICCI.

FPCCI former president Zubair Ahmed Malik, Khalid Chaudhry, Syed Adil Anis, Faheem Khan, Saeed Bhatti, Arshad Abbasi, Akhtar Abbasi, Ashfaq Chatha, Ch. Ashraf Farzand and others were also present at the occasion.

Waheed said a draft bill of rent law was pending in parliament and appealed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to a play role for its early enactment. He said ICCI would hold a meeting with Chairman CDA for resolving key issues of the business community. He stressed that ICCI and TAC Islamabad should make joint efforts for redress of key problems of traders.

ICCI Senior Vice President Muhammad Naveed and Vice President Nisar Ahmed Mirza said that condition of development works in markets was pathetic due to which businesses were suffering. They stressed that TCA Islamabad should join hands with ICCI to push CDA for developing markets on modern lines.

Speaking on the occasion, Baloch expressed hope that the new office bearers of ICCI would play an effective role in resolving key issues of the trading community. He assured that TCA Islamabad and the market unions would extend all possible cooperation and support to the chamber for redress of problems of traders. He said due to lack of attention of CDA, the condition of markets has deteriorated badly. He said traders wanted to strengthen the hands of CDA chairman who was a businessman and, but the bureaucracy was the main hurdle.

He said MNAs Mian Abdul Manan and Asad Umar had presented an amended bill of rent law for Islamabad in the National Assembly and urged that chamber should pressurise for its early passage from the parliament.

ICCI Former President and TAC Secretary Islamabad, Khalid Chaudhry reassured his complete cooperation in efforts aimed at resolving the key issues of traders.
