ISLAMABAD: The Chinese Embassy in Islamabad has taken notice of an article published in the Financial Times regarding remarks of Advisor to the Prime Minister for Commerce and Industry Abdul Razzak Dawood.

It said it also took notice of the clarification issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Textile of Pakistan.

A press release issued by the Chinese embassy on Monday said, “It is a firm consensus between China and Pakistan that the CPEC is a mutually beneficial project and both the governments will carry it forward according to the needs of Pakistan and for the development of Pakistan.”

It added “Such ill-intentioned reports based on distorted and misquoted information only demonstrate that the report contributor has total ignorance and neglect of the CPEC or China-Pakistan traditional partnership.”

Earlier, Mr Dawood had issued a clarification via domestic broadcaster Geo TV that his statements had been taken out of context and he would offer a clarification later.

In a statement given to Financial Times, Mr Dawood said “I think we should put everything on hold for a year, so we can get our act together. Perhaps we can stretch CPEC out over another five years or so.”

He added that he thought China had been granted too-favorable terms in many projects by the former government of Nawaz Sharif.

Moreover, the adviser to the PM for commerce and industry said, “Chinese companies received tax breaks, many breaks and have an undue advantage in Pakistan; this is one of the things we’re looking at because it’s not fair that Pakistan companies should be disadvantaged.”

  1. This old fart is just jello because his company didn’t get any part of the action.
Obviously China has been given tax breaks and other incentives for developing infrastructure in your country.
Making such statements while you have an obvious conflict of interest and then going back on your words by claiming media mis representation just shows how desperate he his. China will give his company a couple of projects so that he can stfu.
