Apropos to stories circulating in the social media mentioning that an oil leak had taken place near Mubarak Village and Charna Island close to Byco’s and Hubco’s refinery in Balochistan has been denied by Byco Petroleum.
BEPA Director Muhammad Khan Uthmankhail confirmed through an official Investigation Report that after their nearly four-hour visit to Byco’s SPM and facilities belonging to Byco Petroleum Pakistan Limited, he concluded that “No Oil Spill from (Byco’s) SPM or pipeline has been observed”.
Following the thorough investigation, Mr Uthmankhail visited the SPM and interviewed the naval staff of the Maritime Security Agency in the area, who also confirmed that they have not witnessed any oil spillage from Byco.
He said BPPL had been requested to temporarily halt sea operations to allow authorities to investigate the actual source of news reports of an oil spill in the area.
The MSA also wrote in an official statement that they could not find any evidence of an oil spill near Byco’s facilities.
The company has categorically denied that no leak or loss of containment has happened at any of its installations and termed all such reports totally false and misleading.
