‘Transmission system being improved to meet electricity demand this summer’

ISLAMABAD: Power Minister Omar Ayub Khan has said that transmission system is being improved to meet electricity demand in the summer season.

In an interview with PTV, he said all the loopholes in the system, from power generation to its transmission, are being addressed.

He said action has been taken against the power pilferage, adding that as many as 30,000 cases were registered and about 3,000 people culprits were sent behind the bars. He said as part of this campaign, 400 employees of WAPDA were also suspended.

The minister said that the latest technology is being introduced to improve the efficiency of the power sector, adding that the share of solar and wind in the power production would be enhanced.

Omar Ayub Khan said that 750 megawatts of electricity will be added to the system in the next 14 months.
