Govt not taking sales tax on petroleum products: Finance Division

Decreasing prices of POL products in int'l markets would be beneficial for Pakistan, Muzzammil Aslam claims

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Finance Spokesperson Muzzammil Aslam on Saturday clarified the government was not receiving any sales tax on the sale of petroleum products.

Talking to a news channel, he said the increase of levy does not increase the price of fuel.

He also added that taxes on M-2 motorway have increased due to agreements signed by the previous governments about which the public was not informed.

“After talks between the government and International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded to resume the stalled bailout package, the government increased taxes on luxury goods but not on items of daily use,” the spokesperson said.

“The Fund has also asked the government to submit the audit report of coronavirus funds,” he said.

Aslam said the impact of decreasing prices of petroleum products in international markets would be beneficial for Pakistan.
