Federal govt raises salaries, allowances for high court judges

Judges' house rent allowance increased to Rs350,000 amid rising living costs

The federal government has raised the salaries and housing allowances for high court judges, as stated in a notification from the Ministry of Law and Justice.

Dawn reported that the notification, signed by acting president Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, confirms a substantial increase in house rent allowances for judges, now set at Rs350,000 per month, up from Rs65,000.

Additionally, the superior judicial allowance has been raised from Rs342,431 to Rs1,090,000. Following these revisions, sources report that a high court judge’s monthly salary could now exceed Rs2 million.

The notification also directs high courts to establish policies regarding official vehicle use, covering aspects such as fuel, maintenance, drivers, and travel between benches.

This increase in allowances follows a request from the Islamabad High Court, citing the growing cost of housing in the capital.
