Pakistan highlights growing IT potential at Washington tech event

Pakistan has a young and talented population, with 65 percent of its citizens under the age of 30, says Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US

WASHINGTON: The Pakistani embassy on Thursday hosted the final session of the “Pakistan-U.S. Tech Investment Conference 2025,” bringing together IT firms, tech executives, business leaders, and entrepreneurs.

The event followed earlier sessions held in Dallas and New York City that focused on Pakistan’s potential to attract foreign investment in the information technology sector.

The conference was organized in collaboration with the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the Ministry of Commerce through its trade officers, Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT and ITeS (P@SHA) and Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs (OPEN) Global.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, opened the event and said the conference reflected the country’s growing IT potential. He highlighted Pakistan’s geopolitical and geoeconomic importance and its development over the past 78 years despite various challenges.

Ambassador Sheikh said that Pakistan has a young and talented population, with 65 percent of its citizens under the age of 30, and stressed the need for U.S.-Pakistan collaboration in the IT sector. He said this cooperation could benefit both countries and the global technology landscape.

The ambassador also announced a video series that will showcase the success stories of Pakistani tech entrepreneurs. He said the goal is to inspire young people in Pakistan to join the startup ecosystem and that they need mentoring, advisory support, and financing from U.S. investors to make their products commercially viable.

Speakers at the event included Abu Bakar, CEO of the Pakistan Software Export Board; Sajjad Syed, Chairman of P@SHA; Tariq Khan, President of OPEN Global; and Naveed Shirwani. They praised the efforts of the embassy and the Consulate Generals in New York and Houston under the leadership of Ambassador Sheikh for holding the three events across different U.S. cities.

The day included presentations from IT firms showcasing their products, along with fireside chat sessions. IT experts shared detailed insights into Pakistan’s technology initiatives and their business outcomes, according to a press release from the Pakistani embassy.
