Govt transfers four directorates of MCI to CDA

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has transferred four directorates of the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) to Capital Development Authority (CDA).

In this regard, sources said that the Ministry of Interior on Monday had issued a notification of transferring four directorates of MCI to CDA in order to ensure smooth and effective service delivery in the capital city and to ease the difficulties being faced by its citizens the functions of following 

Directorates accompanied by related formations of MCI are entrusted to CDA for an interim period of six (06) months under Section 94(2) of the Islamabad Local Government Act, 2015.

All directorates of the Environment Wing (Urban, Regional, Parks), Directorate of Sanitation and City Sewerage, Directorates of Water (Bulk Water Supply and Water and Sewerage Development) and Directorates of Engineering (MPO, Street Lights and MR&M) would be transferred to CDA. 

CDA will inject more funds into the operations of these directorates for urgent optimisation of services offered by the latter. 

Presently, the Islamabad mayor is managing the affairs of MCI, however, sources claimed that MCI may possibly be removed from the map altogether.
