ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday issued a revised decision and announced the recovery of Rs 3 per unit from the industrial consumers of K-Electric in two months.
According to NEPRA decision, the Authority, pursuant to the Judgment of the Supreme Court of Pakistan dated 19th January, 2023, issued its decision in the matter on 31st October, 2023. The decision was intimated to the Federal Government for notification in light of Section 31 of NEPRA Act. However, subsequently, the ministry of energy (MoE) vide letter dated 10.11.2023, submitted that the Authority decided instant case on the request of K-Electric to adjust the tariff for the period July 2019 to December 2019. In view thereof, the MoE requested that control/ implementation period may be clarified in the subject decision, said NEPRA decision.
As per NEPRA decision, the Authority considers that the tariff adjustment period comprises of six months i.e. July 2019 to December 2019, and recovery of the same has already been delayed. Therefore, it would be appropriate to implement the same in a period of two (02) months. Accordingly, the implementation period shall be two (02) months from the date of notification of the said decision, said NEPRA decison.
NEPRA has forwarded the instant decision to the Federal Government for notification in light of Section 31 of NEPRA Act, added NEPRA decision.
Earlier, the federal government announced the industrial relief package for July-December 2019 and the package was applicable for peak hours and off-peak hours. However, the government ended the concession for off-peak hours on 22 January 2020.
After the government’s decision, K-Electric started to collect the subsidy amount, while the subsidy collection was stopped when it was challenged in the court, and now NEPRA has issued a revised decision to recover Rs 3/unit from the industrial consumers of KE in two months in the light of the Supreme Court’s decision.
