CPEC’s second phase crucial to boost Pakistan’s economic transformation: PM

Collaboration in agriculture, IT, and mining key to CPEC's next phase, Shehbaz emphasizes at China's 75th anniversary event

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would play a crucial role in transforming Pakistan’s economy.

“We are entering the second phase of CPEC, which holds immense potential for mutual cooperation in agriculture, information technology, mining, minerals, and many other significant areas of shared interest,” the prime minister said at an event organized by the Chinese Embassy to mark China’s 75th anniversary.

He congratulated the Chinese government and its citizens, highlighting China’s status as a global power and a key partner in international affairs. The event was attended by former President Asif Ali Zardari, federal ministers, diplomats, dignitaries, and senior civil and military officials.

Both leaders emphasized their commitment to working together for a prosperous future, underscoring the strength and importance of the Pakistan-China friendship.

“The friendship between Pakistan and China is higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans,” PM Shehbaz Sharif remarked, emphasizing the inseparable bond between the two nations.

The prime minister also acknowledged China’s pivotal role during Pakistan’s negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). However, he stressed the need to develop key sectors such as agriculture and industry to ensure Pakistan’s long-term development and prosperity.

He reiterated that the ongoing partnership not only fostered regional development and peace but also contributed to global stability, aligning with President Xi Jinping’s vision.

The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for China’s stance on international issues, including those related to Hong Kong and Taiwan. He expressed gratitude for the warm reception received from President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders during his recent visit to China, describing the relationship between the two countries as “indestructible and inseparable.”

He also mentioned that the government eagerly awaits the Chinese Prime Minister’s participation in the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of Government (SCO CHG) meeting in Islamabad.

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, praised President Xi Jinping’s leadership in ushering China into a new era of development, transforming it from a deprived society into a prosperous one. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to working with Pakistan to actively implement its global initiatives, focusing on mutual development and shared cooperation.
