The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has identified 157 housing schemes as illegal and has formally requested the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Revenue to prohibit the sale and purchase of plots within these projects, according to a news report.Â
According to a letter from RDA’s Director of Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering, Tahir Mayo, these housing schemes had initially applied for approval from RDA and the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) but later withdrew their applications and proceeded with development unlawfully.Â
In response, RDA has officially declared these schemes illegal and has moved to restrict property transactions within them.
Legal action has been initiated under the Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and the Punjab Development Authorities Private Housing Scheme Rules 2021. Complaints have also been lodged at relevant police stations against those involved in unauthorised developments.
The affected schemes are spread across various locations, including Rawalpindi, Kallar Syedan, Gujar Khan, Kahuta, Tahlian Rawat, Chakri, Mandra, Taxila, Wah Cantt, Chontra, Nasirabad, Kalyam, Fateh Jang, and Dhamaial. The RDA has advised citizens to avoid investing in these unapproved projects to prevent financial losses.
Authorities have also warned that many of these schemes are using misleading marketing tactics to attract buyers, and strict action will be taken against those involved in fraudulent real estate dealings.
