The federal government has waived electricity bills for domestic consumers affected by recent floods, according to sources in the Power Division.
The decision, approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will cover all categories of domestic users, while those who have already paid their August bills will receive adjustments through their respective power distribution companies, including the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) and Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco).
Floods across Pakistan claimed 1,037 lives and left 1,067 injured between June and October, according to data from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Sources said the waiver applies only to domestic consumers. Bills for non-domestic categories, including commercial and industrial consumers, have been deferred for four months, with payments allowed in six instalments.
