Islamabad IT Park to be completed by December 2025, ministry tells NA panel

Standing Committee on IT briefed on project delay, directs expansion of tech initiatives to smaller cities

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has assured the National Assembly Standing Committee that the Islamabad IT Park will be completed by December 31, 2025, within its revised timeline.

During the meeting chaired by Syed Amin ul Haq, the committee was informed that about 80 percent of the work on the project has been completed. The delay was attributed to changes in the Korean contractor and consultant, which affected progress.

The ministry said the Prime Minister has directed that the project be completed within the current year. The committee urged the ministry to initiate similar development projects in smaller cities to promote economic growth and industrialisation.

Officials briefed the committee that Special Technology Parks are being established in smaller cities through private sector participation, with interest-free loans to support local entrepreneurs and technology-based industries.

The committee also deferred discussion on The Prevention of Obscenity and Indecency in Digital Media Bill, 2025 to its next meeting as the mover was absent. A sub-committee, led by Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, presented its report, which was endorsed with directions for full implementation of its recommendations.
