Customs seize 64,578 litres of smuggled Iranian fuel worth Rs16.5m in Karachi operation

Mazda vehicle also confiscated, taking total case value to Rs36.5 million, says Customs Enforcement

The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Karachi, has recovered 64,578 litres of smuggled Iranian diesel and petrol valued at Rs16.5 million and seized a Mazda vehicle worth around Rs20 million during an intelligence-based anti-smuggling operation at the Northern Bypass in Karachi, officials said on Sunday.

The operation, conducted on Saturday night, was carried out by the Anti-Smuggling Organisation under the direction of senior Customs authorities.

During the raid, customs teams targeted five illegal dumping points operating under the guise of petrol pumps. A Mazda vehicle fitted with a specially fabricated compartment for transporting petroleum products was intercepted while unloading Iranian diesel.

All recovered petroleum products were shifted to the customs warehouse for measurement and verification through dip procedures, officials said. The combined value of the seized fuel and vehicle was estimated at Rs36.5 million.

The enforcement action was carried out by Customs Enforcement Karachi in coordination with the Federal Board of Revenue, which reiterated its commitment to curbing smuggling, safeguarding the national economy, and ensuring fair market practices through strict action against illicit trade.
