MULTAN: Seed cotton (Phutti) equivalent to 8.13 million bales reached ginneries across Pakistan till Jan 1, 2020, registering 20.77pc shortfall compared to the corresponding period of last year.
Out of the total arrivals, over 7.96 million bales have undergone the ginning process, according to a fortnightly report released to media by Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) on Friday.
Arrivals in Punjab were recorded at 4.69 million bales while the same in Sindh stood at over 3.44 million bales.
Total sold out bales were recorded at over 7 million, including 6.98 million bales bought by textile mills and another 54,630 bales by exporters.
Over one million bales were still lying with the ginneries as unsold stock.
Sanghar district of Sindh continued to remain on top with cotton arrival figures of over 1.1 million bales.
The report does not include cotton arrival figures from districts of Kasur and Sargodha.
Fortnightly flow or the cotton arrival in terms of bales at ginning factories in the last fortnight of Dec 2019 was recorded at 278,288 bales.
As many as 304 ginning factories remained operational in the country, including 54 in Sindh and 250 in Punjab.
