ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Tuesday urged the government to initiate work on repairing and development of basic infrastructure in Islamabad’s markets in order to bring them at par with international standards and to facilitate the growth of business activities.
In a press statement, ICCI President Muhammad Ahmed Waheed said that no development work has been undertaken in Islamabad’s markets and industrial areas since the last four years, due to which condition of these areas has deteriorated.
He added that the business community has been paying multiple taxes and charges to
Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) including property tax, water charges and conservancy charges stressing that these funds should be utilised for the rehabilitation of infrastructure in markets and industrial areas .
He stressed the need for repairing roads, footpaths, street lights, water and sewerage systems and the provision of filtration plants and public toilets.
The ICCI president added that the Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Ansar Aziz has recently undertaken the ground-breaking of a public toilet in F-10 Markaz, however all markets and industrial areas in Islamabad urgently repair basic infrastructure repairs.
ICCI Senior Vice President Tahir Abbasi and Vice President Saif ur Rehman said that the lockdown has badly affected business activities in Islamabad.
They also urged the MCI to remove all encroachments from Islamabad’s markets adding that such encroachments tarnish the look of markets and create hurdles in business promotion.
They also urged for reduction in taxes and water charges to provide relief to the business community affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
