Europe to keep markets open to boost trade

Italian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Benedetto Della Vedova held a meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday to explore avenues of mutual cooperation. The Italian Deputy Minister assured that the entire European bloc will be open for trade and efforts will be taken to promote trade to reach its potential.

Moreover, it was informed that the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Stefano Pontecorvo is actively engaged in promoting foreign direct investment by Italian companies in Pakistan in areas such as energy, infrastructure and machinery.

He appreciated Pakistan’s commitment to joining the Open Government Partnership (OGP) and its accession to the OECD Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters as the organisation facilitates international trade and investment.

The finance minister told the Italian dignitary that Pakistan had submitted a letter of intent for joining the OGP after becoming a signatory to the OECD Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters.

Moreover, Dar appreciated the Italian government’s efforts in promoting development projects in Pakistan while also stressing on the great potential for trade between the two countries. He added that there is room for greater cooperation between the two countries in areas of defence, economy, trade and investment.
