Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has appointed Saeed Ahmad as President National Bank of Pakistan (NBP). Saeed has been serving as Deputy Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) since January 21, 2014 where he had been actively looking after the financial markets, Islamic Banking, Development Finance, Information Technology, Payment Systems and Special Initiatives Groups.
His vision has been driven by financial inclusion aimed at all segments of the society as well as poverty alleviation. Moreover, Saeed has been leading various initiatives aimed at promoting Islamic Banking in the country.
Saeed boasts extensive commercial and investment banking and management experience.
Saeed has served as Chairman National Steering Committee on Islamic Finance. The Committee has been working on drafting a framework for the promotion of Islamic Finance in the country. Â Moreover, Saeed has played a vital role in the establishment of three Centers of Excellence in Islamic Finance in three national universities. He is also Chairperson for Coordination Committee for Centers of Excellence for Islamic Finance Education.
Moreover, Saeed had also been focused on developing a smooth flow of financial services to agriculture, microfinance, SMEs, low-cost housing. He had also been involved in devising various market instruments.
In the capacity of Deputy Governor, Saeed was involved in key decision making in the bank. He chaired the Banking Policy Committee, Investment Committee of the Management, Management Committee on Information technology and Payment Systems Policy Committee and was also a member of the teams on Monetary Policy and Monetary Operations Committees.
To add to that, Saeed Ahmed has also been representing SBP in various national institutions. He is a member of Board of Directors of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in addition to chairing the SAARC Payments Council which primarily deals with the exchange of information and experiences involving payment systems.
