PM would soon announce Karachi package, says Sindh governor

 

Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would soon visit Karachi and announce a Karachi Package, while a separate package for industries would also be announced.

He stated this during his visit to North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI); Senator Nehal Hashmi was also present on the occasion.

The governor said the prime minister will visit the city soon and announce a Karachi Package, while a separate package for industries would also be announced. He said the prime minister was attaching top priority for the improvement of infrastructure of basic amenities in the province, and the prime minister is very passionate about accelerated development of the province in every field, he added.

Zubair said that a Chinese company would soon establish a desalination plant in Karachi for desalinating sea water. This plant would ensure supply of treated water to industries, he added.

He assured that problems of encroachments and infrastructure development of North Karachi Industrial area would be solved on priority basis. The issues of matching grant and installation of effluent plants for industrial waste would also be discussed with the federal government, he assured.

The governor, while stressing on local and foreign investments in Karachi, said that after maintenance of law and order, the city has become an ideal destination for investors. Due to ample favourable investment opportunities, no multinational could afford to ignore the potential of Karachi, he opined.

The governor said that Karachi is the financial and economic hub of Pakistan and with the foreign direct investment it would further expand.

He said that in 2013 the total revenue of Pakistan was Rs 1900 billion which would be over 3500 billion at the end of the current fiscal year. All economic indicators have been positive during last four years, including the remarkable growth of the Pakistan Stock Exchange which is well over 50,000 points currently, he said.

Zubair said that 7pc GDP annual growth would soon become a reality. The progress of Pakistan is directly linked with the development of Karachi and if Karachi develops the whole country would flourish and develop, that’s why special measures are being taken for the establishment of durable peace in Sindh.
