Import of crude oil, petrol and jet fuel have witnessed an upward trend while the import of furnace oil and diesel has recorded decline during the first month of the current fiscal year 2017-18, it was learnt.
Official sources at petroleum ministry, on condition of anonymity, informed that import of crude oil has increased by 25 per cent, while petrol by 19 per cent and jet fuel by 106 per cent in the month of July 2017.
However, they said that import of furnace oil and diesel has witnessed a decline during the said month. “Upward trend in the import of crude oil in July was mainly because of increase in the production capacity of the refineries,” sources said.
While sharing details of oil imported during the months of June and July, the sources told that import of crude oil with 25 per cent increase was 8,88,000 tonnes in the month of July this year, while IT remained seven lac and eight thousand tonnes in June 2017. And, out of total imported crude in July, 1,71,510 tonnes was imported on the single point mooring (SPM) of Byco, while 1,37,661 tonnes crude oil was imported by Byco refinery in the month of June 2107.
Similarly, import of petrol was 4,44,000 tonnes in July with a 19 per cent increase in the 3,72,000 tonnes petrol import made in the month of June 2017. Likewise, import of Jet fuel being used in aeroplanes swelled by 106 per cent in July if compared with the 21673 tonnes of July with 10493 tonnes import of Jet fuel done in the month of June 2017.
Sources further disclosed that import of furnace oil has registered six per cent decrease in the import of furnace oil during July if compared with last month’s import.
