KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) which is set to be sworn in next week will spend $2 billion on converting traditional government systems into e-government to enable transparency, development and efficiency.
As per PTI’s digital policy, it will be focusing on private-public partnership in the country’s information technology sector which can create 1 million additional jobs, reported Express Tribune.
Yusuf Hussain CEO Ignite said several countries had been able to save billions of dollars via e-government and appreciated this decision.
The incoming government in its manifesto said it intends to create 10 million jobs over the course of next five years.
From these jobs, 1 million will be created in the IT sector via youth training and a special focus on exports.
PTI intends to allot $2 billion for citizen services, digital infrastructure and various e-government initiatives over the next five years.
Also, the incoming government conceives expanding the tax net with the bringing in of automation in government services which is anticipated to keep a check on corruption and helping enable efficiency in services for citizens.
Also, the incoming government isn’t racing to compete with the private sector but intends to cooperate with it.
The PTI as per its policy draft recommended the establishment of Knowledge Economy Authority which will possess powers across all government departments to be helmed by a chief information officer from the private sector.
