Onederland signs MoU with HBL Konnect to launch QR code payments

KARACHI: Onederland and HBL’s branchless banking platform Konnect signed a memorandum of understanding at Onederland’s premises on Tuesday.

The agreement was signed by Umar Dar, the CEO of Lucky Entertainment Pvt Ltd, and Agha Israr Ahmed Khan, the Regional Business Head South for Konnect.

Teams from Konnect Sales, Konnect Trade Marketing, and HBL Cards Alliances also attended the ceremony.

Under the agreement, visitors to Onederland will be able to buy exclusive packages by scanning the Visa-powered QR placed by HBL at all Onederland payment counters.

As per the memorandum, users of the Konnect app and HBL mobile app paying via QR will be able to buy four different packages. For every top up on Onederland’s card of Rs1,000, Rs2,000, Rs5,000 and Rs10,000, Onederland will provide bonus cash of Rs400, Rs800, Rs2,000 and Rs5,500, respectively.

HBL Konnect will also set up two kiosks at the entertainment park during the course of the campaign to facilitate customers with QR payments.

“Retail is progressing, and financial institutions are moving towards cashless transactions,” says Ammar Motan, the Executive Director of Onederland. “We want to capitalize on this.”

Onederland already has a preexisting alliance with HBL, whereby HBL cardholders can receive a discount on their entry cards at Onederland.

Part of the Yunus Brothers Group (YBG), Onederland was opened in May 2017, as part of the Lucky One Mall.  The space occupies nearly 45,000 square feet on the second floor of the Lucky One Mall.

According to Motan, the centre currently has 130 rides, including carnival and kiddie rides. It also features unique rides such as a multiplayer hologate virtual reality, a 3D dark ride simulator and the tallest drop tower in Pakistan.

Launched in 2018, Konnect is HBL’s branchless banking platform that offers mobile wallet accounts linked to a mobile phone number. Account holders can use the Konnect App to make payments.

The platform now has more than 3 million accounts.
