CNIC condition: FBR to launch crackdown against non-compliant traders

KARACHI: Following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government’s initiative, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will launch a crackdown from next week against traders who fail to comply with a condition of furnishing computerised national identity card (CNIC) details of buyers having an invoice above Rs50,000 with the apex tax authority.

According to a report in local media, the FBR has made it mandatory for a citizen to show his or her CNIC in case he/she wanted to buy a product of over Rs50,000 from a sales tax-registered seller.

The condition of showing CNIC at the time of purchase was waived in July 2019 on protest of traders and small retailers but the condition has been enforced from February 1, 2020.

It has been learnt that the FBR will take action against registered sales tax entities in case of non-compliance and a comprehensive strategy has been chalked out for this purpose.
