ICCI seeks cut in power, gas tariffs

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Muhammad Ahmed Waheed has said in line with the reduction in petroleum prices, the government must also announce proportionate cuts in the prices of electricity and gas.

“Under the current crisis-like situation, the government took a good decision by reducing up to 38pc the prices of petroleum products, as this would bring down production cost and provide relief to the people,” the ICCI president said in a statement issued on Saturday. “However, the government must also reduce electricity and gas tariffs in order to further reduce the cost of doing business and facilitate the masses.

He said that Pakistan was producing major share of electricity from thermal fuel at a time when oil prices in international market had come down drastically.
