Business community calls for business friendly policies at the Torkham border

PESHAWAR:The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has urged the government to review its policies related to the Torkham border in order to facilitate the business community.

Bilateral trade and transit trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan has remained low for the last three months as policies such as exchange of drivers and unloading of goods from vehicles at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border at Torkham, have been put in place.

According to the SCCI, such policies cause huge financial losses to traders and the business community.

They urged the government and the Ministry of Interior to enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan similar to what are being implemented at all international airports across the country.

The chamber office bearers also informed that a joint Jirga of Pakistan and Afghanistan business community in collaboration with the federal and provincial governments will also be convened in Peshawar.
