ICCI asks govt to waive six-month rent for small businesses

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Senior Vice President Tahir Abbasi, on Tuesday, urged the federal government to waive off six months of rent for small businesses that have seen a decline in business in recent months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The lockdown is still under implementation in different areas of Islamabad due to which small traders have been pushed to the point of starvation. The government should waive off six months of rent for small businesses or pay their rent the same way it paid their electricity bills,” the ICCI senior vice president said.

On the other hand, former ICCI senior vice president Khalid Chaudhry informed that the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad had increased water bills multiple times.

He further alleged that the Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Ansar Aziz, who belongs to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) has purposefully increased water bills in order to discredit the incumbent government.

The former ICCI vice president demanded an immediate reversal of the increase in water bills.

He further demanded that restaurants should be allowed to resume operations while following standard operating procedures since thousands of people in the restaurant industry have lost their jobs due to the lockdown.
