Oil tankers association ends strike on govt assurances

Irked by the increase in income and toll taxes, the association had earlier threatened to discontinue supply across the country

KARACHI: The Oil Tankers and Contractors Association on Friday called off its strike after receiving an invitation for talks from the Petroleum Division.

The association was protesting against the increase in income tax, provincial service and toll taxes on petroleum products.

The office-bearers of the association have now been called to Islamabad on July 20 so that an amicable solution to the issue could be chalked out. The Petroleum Division has ensured to communicate their due demands to the concerned authorities.

It may be noted that the supply of petroleum products remained suspended across the country due to the strike of the Oil Tankers and Contractors Association.

The association on Wednesday announced that it would discontinue supply across the country to protest an increase in income and toll taxes. “There is no business and they [government] have increased the tax,” association’s president Abidullah Afridi had said.
